Privacy Policy
Effective November 23, 2026.
We published this version on October 15, 2026, revised it on October 20, 2026, and it takes effect on November 23, 2026. Until then, the version on our Privacy Policy page applies.
The short version. We store what we need to run your assessment, your reports, and your account. We never sell your data. We run no advertising trackers. Our own usage counts that use a visit ID stay off unless you turn them on. From October 9, 2026, if our host places your connection in the United States, and from October 20, 2026 in the United Kingdom, we count anonymous steps people reach on the site, such as starting and finishing the test, viewing a result or an offer, and opening checkout, before you make a cookie choice. These counts save nothing that identifies you. Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track, Reject non-essential, or saving with Analytics off stops these counts. From October 20, 2026, if our host places your connection in the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, no cookie banner opens, to keep prompts out of your way. The site then stores only what it needs to work, and Analytics and Marketing stay off until you turn them on with the Cookie settings link in the footer. From October 22, 2026 we also count openings of shared links as hourly totals that hold nothing about anyone. You can download your data or delete your account yourself, at any time, from the Your data section of your account page. If you took the assessment without an account, the Data Requests page can delete that record too.
1. Who we are
WiredType is run by WiredType LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company, which took over running WiredType on October 15, 2026. WiredType LLC is the controller of your personal data under the GDPR and UK GDPR, and the business responsible for it under US state privacy laws. Throughout this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refer to WiredType. Our website is wiredtype.com. Our mailing address is WiredType LLC, PMB 1244, 111 Town Square Place, Suite 1201, Jersey City, NJ 07310, United States. Our registered office, where the company is established, is at 971 US Highway 202N, Ste N, Branchburg, NJ 08876, United States. To reach us about your privacy, write to privacy@wiredtype.com.
We offer a free DISC assessment, paid reports, subscriptions with AI coaching features, and tools for teams. This policy explains what we collect when you use any of them and what we do with it.
2. What we collect
Assessment answers
When you take an assessment we store your answers, your scores and DISC type, a random session ID, your browser's name and major version and your operating system (never the full user-agent string), the country our host detects from your connection, and, for the full assessment, your screen size. If you are signed out, the record carries no name or email address. When you sign in or create an account on the same browser, the assessments you took there are attached to your account.
Share links and cards
When you share a free result, the link and its preview image carry your first name and your type, for example wiredtype.com/s/D/-/Robin. When you share, we also keep the first name you typed with your link's code, so the shared page and its preview show your name and the type from your saved result, and nobody can change either by editing the link. If you have an account, the name comes from your profile instead. Our own server draws that image, and our host keeps a copy for up to a day so the link previews quickly wherever you post it. When you delete your free result or your account, we delete the stored name and ask our host to remove its copies. Anyone who has the link can see the name and type. The share page asks search engines not to list it.
Account information
If you create an account we store your email address and the first and last name you enter. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider, Supabase, which stores it only in hashed form. Your account also holds your DISC type, what you have bought, and your AI credit balance. You can use an email alias if you prefer. We also record when you open a report and download its PDF, so we can deliver it and answer your questions about it.
How we write about you. If you tell us how to write about you (a name for your cover, what to call you, pronouns, an honorific, a title or an organization), we keep those words on your profile and use them only in your own reports, in messages we send you, on pages you choose to share, and on pair or team pages you take part in. They are included in your data export, deleted with your account, and never used in analytics.
How you arrived. If you first arrive at WiredType through a person's card, link or code, we keep which account it was and how you arrived. We use it to apply the Founder's Circle and partner credit, and to count, in totals that name nobody, how far sharing reaches. It is deleted with your account.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number, security code, or bank details. Stripe tells us the email used at checkout and whether the payment went through. We store the product you bought, the amount, the date, and Stripe's reference numbers for the payment, linked to your account. Stripe keeps its own record of every payment under its own privacy policy.
AI features
Five features send what you write to an AI model: the AI coach chat, the writing-sample analysis, team pair reports, your replies to our invitation emails (a model reads each reply to see whether you asked a question or asked us to stop writing, so we can answer you or stop), and the WiredType Care Team, our AI support team (see The WiredType Care Team below). For the first four, the text and the DISC profile details the feature needs go to OpenAI or Anthropic. We do not keep coach chats or writing samples, unless you send an exchange to us yourself as a bug report from the chat or by email. If you are signed in and have turned on Remember my coach sessions, we keep a short summary of each coach session, as described under Your history with us. If you are in Washington, our Your health data page explains how we handle health details in those summaries. Team pair reports are saved so your team can read them again. We also use the same AI providers to draft the wording of some emails and replies to match your type; those requests carry your first name, your DISC type and scores, the facts of the message (a receipt, a result, a support reply), and the summary of your history with us. The requests are not saved; the emails and replies we send are kept in your history (see Your history with us). The AI Use page lists every AI feature and what it sends.
Email list
If you use Email me this result under a free result, we store the address, your DISC type, the page you were on and the page that linked you there, your browser's user-agent string, the country our host detects from your connection, and when we emailed you. We send that one email, and this form sends nothing else unless you also check the reminder box described below. The email carries your full free result: your type, your four scores with the date of the result, and the notes the result page shows. The page sends the scores and the date with the request, they are not stored with the address. If the address belongs to a WiredType account, the copy of the email we keep in Your history with us holds them. For an address with no account, we keep no copy of the email. When we find the result you saved, the email's button is a personal link that opens that result on our site for 30 days, and until you save the result to an account, anyone who has the email can open it without signing in; otherwise the button opens the free page for your type. Entries from an older signup form also record the date the person agreed to hear from us.
Two more emails exist only if you ask for them with an unchecked box: one link to finish a checkout you started and did not complete (sent once, after the Stripe checkout expires unpaid), and one reminder about your free result a week after you request it. Each is a single email with an unsubscribe link, and neither is sent before we publish a postal address. The record of your request is kept for 60 days and is the consent for that one email; the unsubscribe list applies to both.
Teams
If you join a team on WiredType, the people who run that team (the admins) can see your name, your email address, the date you joined, your DISC type and your four scores, and the team-facing tips built from them. No one on the team sees your answers to individual questions. Before you join, the invitation page shows you exactly what the admins, and your manager if the invite names one, will see.
If an admin names a manager for you on the team, that manager sees your name, your DISC type, your four scores and the tips built from them, so they can learn how to work well with you. Unless your manager is also one of the team's admins, your manager never sees your email address and cannot download your full report, even if you let the admins download it. No one on the team sees your answers. If a manager who is not an admin is named after you join, we tell you who it is and what they will see by email, or on your team page if the email does not arrive, and they see nothing until 24 hours after you were told. If you joined your team before WiredType let teams name managers, your manager sees nothing unless you say yes on your team page. You can turn this off at any time on your team page with the switch labeled “Show my type and scores to my manager,” and nothing else about your place on the team changes. When an admin removes or changes your manager, the previous manager loses the view at once. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, our legal basis is our legitimate interest, and the team's, in helping managers work well with their people (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)); turning the switch off is your objection under Article 21. Under California law, your type and scores are inferences, and we disclose them only to the admins and the manager of the team you joined.
The admins can download your full report only if you check the box that allows it. The box starts unchecked, and leaving it unchecked changes nothing about your place on the team. You can uncheck it on your team page at any time; we then delete the team's stored exports, and a copy an admin already saved stays with that admin. We rely on your consent for this (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
You can leave a team at any time from your team page. Leaving removes you from the team's dashboard and deletes your pair reports, your interactions and your situation records for that team. You keep your own report. Until the team is deleted, we keep a record that you were a member and the date you left.
Compare, Together and your card
This section was added on September 23, 2026. Compare is open to everyone; Together and the card are open to a small group of accounts for now.
Compare. When you invite someone or ask to compare, we store the name you choose for the comparison, the preference you pick, the relationship you choose, and which result you share. When you both approve, the person you compare with sees that name, your type, the broad tendencies of your type, your preference and the comparison written from them. That person does not see your answers, your scores, your reports, your email address or your purchases, unless you choose to show your four scores on the comparison page. When you ask to compare, or approve a request, we email the person you compare with to say so. Either of you can withdraw at any time, and the comparison and what each of you shared are deleted for both of you right away. When you delete your account, your invitations and comparisons are deleted, and the person you compare with can no longer open them. From October 11, 2026, when you finish the 28-question assessment and you have comparisons with other people, we ask you once whether those comparisons may use your new result. If you say yes, each person you compare with sees your updated type and the deeper guidance about you, which is drawn from the 28 questions, and your scores only where you chose to show them. If you say no, or leave without answering, your comparisons keep the result you shared. You can change this choice later in the settings of Together, the part of WiredType where you compare with people. Turning it off keeps each comparison on the result it shows now. Turning it on applies from the next time you finish the 28 questions. If you and the person you compare with have both turned on Analytics, we also record when the deeper guidance in your comparison first opens and whether either of you later takes the 28-question assessment. We use that record only to learn whether the guidance helps. It is part of Download my data, and we delete it when either of you removes the comparison, turns Analytics off or deletes the account, and within 400 days in every case.
Comparing from your free result. After a free result, you can make a private link for one person you name. We store your first name, the first name you give that person, the kind of relationship you pick (someone you work with, someone close to you, or someone you would like to understand better), which of your results the link belongs to, a one-way code of the link, and when the link was made, shared, opened and used. We do not store that person's email address or phone number, and WiredType never contacts them: you send the link yourself. Anyone who opens the link sees your first name, your type unless your card hides it, and the first name you gave them. If your card is set to hide your type, the link, its landing page and its preview show your first name without your type. Your type then appears only inside a comparison the other person opens, because a comparison needs both types. A preview our servers made before you hid your type can still show it for up to 15 minutes, and a chat app that already showed the preview may keep its own copy. When that person finishes the free test, they choose whether to open the comparison. Only if they do, we connect their result to yours, and each of you sees the other's first name and type and the comparison written from your two types; neither of you sees the other's answers or scores. If your result is saved to an account, we email you once when the comparison opens. Either of you can remove it at any time, and then we delete it and neither of you can open it again. A link nobody used stops working after 30 days, and we delete it 30 days later. When you delete your free result or your account, we delete your links; when the other person deletes their result, the comparison ends. If someone named you in a link, we hold only the first name they typed and the kind of relationship they picked, and nothing else about you, until you choose to open the comparison; to have it removed, write to privacy@wiredtype.com. After a comparison opens, either of you can ask for a public “how we click” card. It shows your two first names, your two styles and one line about each style from our public type pages. It shows no answers and no scores. Anyone with its link can see it and can tell that you both used WiredType. It goes up only after both of you say yes. Either of you can take it down at any time, and it also comes down when the comparison is removed or either result is deleted. When it comes down, we clear our host’s copies. Apps where the link was already posted may keep their own preview of it. A new card gets a new link. Search engines are asked not to list it. Since October 2, 2026, you can also make a group link: one link you can post in a chat for many people. Each person who opens it, takes the free test and agrees gets their own comparison with you alone, the same way as a one-person link, and each of you sees the other's first name and type. A group link keeps working until you turn it off or replace it, and turning it off leaves comparisons already made open. The person who opens it needs no account. We email you at most once a day for each group link. Your card's link can also open the free test. That link is a standing link: many people can use it, and it keeps working until you pause it, replace it or change your card code. A person who takes the test from your card needs no account. We keep their result on our servers under a random session ID stored in their browser, as section 5 describes. If that person finishes and agrees to connect, we connect the two of you under the rules for your list below, and each of you then sees the other's first name and type and the comparison. If your card hides your type, the comparison opens only once you have agreed to the connection. We email you at most once a day for each link about the people who finished that day. If they never save their result to an account, it is deleted on the schedule in section 7, and with it their place in your list and any details they shared. If you already have a result, you can connect with one tap on the link. You can choose to share your first name and style with each new person without seeing the full list again. You still tap to connect each time. Turn the choice off at any time and it stops at once. If you are signed in, we save it on your account. Otherwise it stays in your browser.
Group maps. WiredType has two kinds of group map. Your private group map appears once 3 people have opened a comparison with you from your group link or card. It shows the first name and style of each person who opened one, in one picture, and only you see it. When you open a comparison from someone's group link or card, your first name and style also appear on that person's private group map, which only that person sees. The shared group map is separate. If your comparison came from someone's group link or card, you can choose to appear on the shared group map for that link, and you appear there only if you choose to. Everyone who also chooses to appear on it sees your first name and your style, and you see theirs. Neither map shows answers or scores. You leave the shared group map as soon as you turn it off or the comparison ends.
Links printed in your report. When you download a Full, Essentials or Leadership report as a PDF, it prints five links of your own, each with a QR code, one for each circle: a friend, family, a partner, work and someone new. If your account has no first name, the PDF prints no links. These links belong to you and to the result your report is about. For each one we store your first name, the circle, which of your results it belongs to, a one-way code of the link, an encrypted copy so your report page can show it to you again, and when it was made and turned off. Anyone who scans or opens one sees your first name and, unless your card hides your type, your type, and can take the free test. To ask for a comparison, that person finishes the test and gives a first name. We hold their result with the request so the comparison is ready if you agree, and they see that the request is with you. We email you, at most once a day for each link, and the request waits for you in your comparisons. Until you answer, you see only the first name they gave and the circle, never their type, answers or scores. If you say yes, the comparison opens for both of you and works like the one above: each of you sees the other's first name and type, and neither sees the other's answers or scores. If you say no, we delete the request, and the person sees only that it is not open. Either of you can remove the request while it waits. Anyone who holds a copy of your PDF can use its links. If a copy reaches someone you did not mean to share it with, open your report at wiredtype.com and choose “Turn off my printed links and get new ones” under “Your first step”, or write to privacy@wiredtype.com. The old printed links stop working for anyone new. Requests already waiting stay for you to answer, comparisons already open stay open, and your next download prints the new links. Under California law the first names are identifiers and the types are inferences, and we do not sell or share them.
Your list (Together). When you add people, we store the names and email addresses you give us, your labels and rooms, and a record of any invitation WiredType sent for you before it stopped sending them. When someone takes the test from your card, opens the comparison and agrees to be connected, and you have agreed as well, they appear in your list with their first name, their type, the comparison and a note that they came through your card. You agree by turning on "Add people who take the test from my card to my people", which starts off, or by adding each person yourself. If they have a WiredType account, or save their result to one later, you also appear in their list once both of you have agreed, and we email them once to say so. We do not connect two people while either has blocked the other, or for 7 days after either declined. If you remove a person, we do not add them from your card again until you add them yourself. You can also write where you met a person and a one-line note about them. Only you see them. Keep them to what you need to get along with the person, as section 7 of our Terms of Service says: no health, beliefs, sex life, finances or other private details, and nothing about a person under 18 unless you are their parent or guardian. WiredType does not email the people in your list: you send your own invitation, from your own email or app, in your own words. Your Together settings decide whether people who already have your email address can see that you are on WiredType. There is one exception at checkout. If someone pays for a report with your email address, the next screen shows them whether that address already had a WiredType account. They cannot see what the account holds, and we email you each time.
Your card. A public card shows your name to anyone with its link or code, and only the other details you switch on: email, phone, website, LinkedIn, company, role, photo, the approach line you pick, and your type. From November 23, 2026, a photo of a person that you add to your card must be of you. Photos already on cards stay as they are. If you turn your type on and choose "Show my real pattern", your public card also includes your D, I, S and C scores rounded to the nearest 5, and anyone with your card link or QR code can read them. With the standard type bands, your public card includes no scores. You can switch it off at any time, which removes the scores from your card, although a copy someone already saved may remain. Your name can be a display name, such as your first name alone. Each detail has its own switch beside it in the card editor, and the preview shows what the public sees. A company, role or photo shows only once you add it, and you can switch it off at any time. A card made before these switches existed keeps showing the company, role and photo it already showed until you switch them off. The contact file a person saves carries the details switched on when they save it, and a file already saved on a phone does not change later. When someone opens your card, you see only a count of openings, and the count does not record who opened it. Our host's request logs, described under Server logs in this section, still record each visit. You can also share more with one person you are connected with. That person sees those extra details only when signed in, and no other WiredType user sees them. You can also choose to share the same details with each new connection automatically, and you can change or stop that at any time. When someone shares their details back on your card, they choose each one: their name, and if they wish their email, phone, website, company, role, photo and type. You receive only what they switch on. The comparison still shows each connected person's type; the type switch here covers the contact details only. We email you to say they shared, and the email does not contain the details. Details they type never replace a phone number or company you already saved for them. We email them your card, and one reminder, only if they give an email address and ask for those emails. Either of you can switch a detail off at any time, and it leaves the other person's view and their next contact file. A switch cannot recall a contact already saved to a phone or an email already delivered. Before a person connects from a card, that person confirms they are 16 or older. We store the confirmation and its time, and never a birth date for this step. Before sharing contact details, a person gives their date of birth, unless they already passed that separate check, and must be 18 or older. A person who does not confirm they are 16 or older still sees their own result. No comparison opens, and nothing about them is shared or listed.
If you are in someone's list. We keep your name and email (and your phone and company, if you typed them on a card) so that person can see their list, and we use them only to send the emails described here. If you share your details on someone's card without a WiredType account, we show you a private link to change or remove those details, and we email that same link to you if you gave an email address. We keep a code that lets us recognize the link. The link itself stays with us only until its email is sent, and then we delete it. Anyone who has the link can change or remove what you shared, so keep the link, and the email that carries it, to yourself. If you lose it, email privacy@wiredtype.com and tell us whose card it was and what you shared. If that matches a share we hold, we remove the details you shared on that card within 15 days. The person who added you may also have written where you met and a one-line note about you, which only they see. To be removed, use the removal link in any email we sent you, or email privacy@wiredtype.com from that address. We remove you within 30 days. If someone added you to a list, email privacy@wiredtype.com and we will tell you what we hold about you, including any note, and remove it if you ask.
How long. A person stays in a list until the list's owner removes them, they remove themselves, or the owner deletes their account. The record of a card exchange (the address, the card and the time) loses the address and the name after 90 days, and after 4 days when you only asked for the card. Either of you can remove the other at any time, from your list or, without an account, from your result page. Removing ends the comparison for both of you, deletes the place in each other's lists that came from the card, deletes the details each of you shared with the other, and cancels any email still waiting to go between you. Neither of you is told by email. A contact you had saved before the card stays in your list, without the comparison or the shared details. Removing does not erase a contact already saved on a phone or an email already delivered. If you turn off your card's link, people already connected stay connected until one of you removes the other.
Apps you connect to WiredType
This section was added on October 1, 2026, and takes effect on October 22, 2026. Connect with WiredType is not switched on yet. It starts on October 22, 2026, and never sooner than 14 days after we email account holders about it.
You can let another company's app read your WiredType type. This happens only when you tap Allow on wiredtype.com after the app sends you to us, or when you make a share code on wiredtype.com and give it to the app. Before you tap Allow, the page shows the app's name, its website, a link to its privacy policy and exactly what it will receive. A share code works once, for the first app that uses it, and only for 30 minutes after you make it; the app that used it then appears in Apps that can read your type. The app receives your type code and the name of your type, and nothing else. It never receives your answers, your scores, your name or your email address. The app may show your type to the people you choose to involve inside that app, such as a teammate you compare with. While the connection lasts, the app can ask us for your current type, so after a retake it receives your new type. If we ever offer apps more than your type code and type name, we will ask you again first. We share your type with the app because you asked us to, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. To see the apps that can read your type and remove any of them, open Apps that can read your type from your account page, or go to wiredtype.com/developers/connect. When you remove an app, or delete your WiredType account, the app can no longer read your type from us. The app may keep the type it already received. The app's own privacy policy governs that copy and anything else the app does with your type, and you can ask the app to delete it. Our API Terms require every app to use your type only for the features of its product that you use, never to sell it, to stop using your type once it learns that you removed the app, and to delete it within 30 days after that. Apps check their connections at least every 30 days, so the whole process can take up to 60 days. Apps may be outside your country; where the law requires it, we bind them to the European standard contract terms for that transfer. We keep a record of each connection: the app, when you connected it, how you connected it, and when it was removed. We keep the record of a removed connection for two years, as proof of your choice, and then delete it. When you delete your WiredType account, we delete every record of your connections at once.
Being found by people who have your email address
On Together, people can add the email addresses of people they know. If you choose yes to "Let people who have my email address see that I am on WiredType and which test I took", a person who adds your address sees two facts: that you have a WiredType account, and whether you took the free test or the 28 questions. If you choose no, they see nothing until you answer an invitation. Your type and scores are shared only in a comparison, and your Comparing choice decides whether you approve each one. You can change both in Settings under Sharing and Together at any time.
Public thanks
When something you reported is fixed, the public changelog can thank you. It shows your first name and a quote of up to 160 characters from your message only if you checked the box to be thanked on the public changelog. You can agree when you send the report or in Settings. Without that agreement, the entry describes the fix and names nobody. Before an entry is posted, an AI model from OpenAI reads the subject and words of your report, the changelog line made from them, and your first name if you agreed to be named, and decides what the entry may show. We keep its decision with your report. If you later turn thanks off in Settings, we remove your first name and your words from past entries, and the fixes stay listed. Deleting your account removes your entries.
Research program
Research participation is off unless you turn it on. What it records is described on our Research Privacy Policy page.
Server logs
Our hosting provider, Netlify, and our database provider, Supabase, keep standard request logs as part of running the service. Those logs include IP addresses. We run no advertising pixels or third-party affiliate tracking. The usage counts that use a visit ID are described under Usage counts below and run only if you allow them; the anonymous step totals and the hourly shared-link totals hold nothing about any person, and section 2 says when each runs.
Partner links. WiredType has a partner program: people who introduce others to WiredType and earn a commission when those people buy. If you arrive through a partner's link (a link with ?p= or a wiredtype.com/p/ page), we record that visit with the partner's handle, the page you landed on, and a one-way hash of your IP address made with a secret salt, kept for 90 days and used only to catch a partner crediting themselves. Partners see counts and amounts (visits, assessments, purchases, their commission). They never see your name, email, result, or account. If you arrive through a share link from a person a partner introduced, your purchases are credited to that partner in the same way, and the partner sees counts and amounts only.
Usage counts
If you turn on Analytics in the cookie banner or in Cookie settings, we record which pages and steps you reach (for example start, finish, share, buy, retake), where you came from (the name of a search engine or AI assistant, the code on an invitation or shared link, a partner code, a campaign tag, or direct), which experiment version you saw, which share button or offer you chose, the amount of a purchase, and your DISC type. Each row carries a random visit ID, and your account ID once you sign in, including rows from the same visit made shortly before you signed in. We never record free text, your email, your name, your IP address, or your browser details in these rows. We use them to see what works and to test changes. This is off unless you turn it on.
Anonymous step totals. From October 9, 2026, we count anonymous steps people reach on the site, such as starting and finishing the test, viewing a result or an offer, sharing, and opening checkout, to understand how the site is used and where people get stuck. We may add or remove steps, and every step is counted the same way. Each stored total contains only a step name, a count and a one-minute period. These totals have no browser, account, visit or link ID, and no answers, scores, DISC type or referral details. The counting request uses no cookie or saved identifier. Our host still handles connection information, including your IP address, to deliver the request; that information is not saved in these totals. For connections our host locates in the United States, and from October 20, 2026 in the United Kingdom, counting can run before you make a cookie choice, and Cookie settings describes these counts. Everywhere else, including the EEA and Switzerland and when the location is unknown, counting waits until you allow Analytics. Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track, Reject non-essential, or saving with Analytics off in Cookie settings stops these counts. Repeated actions may be counted again; the totals do not count unique people.
Campaign codes, from October 22, 2026. If you arrive through a link that carries one of our campaign codes, we save that code with your free result so we can tell which ads and links bring people to the test. We save no other detail about the link or the page you came from.
Shared links. From October 22, 2026, when someone opens a shared WiredType link, our server adds one to an hourly total for that kind of link, for example a link shared by email or by a QR code. The total keeps no IP address, no browser details, no cookie and nothing else about the person who opened the link, and nothing is counted when the browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. We use the totals to see which ways of sharing work.
Portraits for your card. If you make a portrait for your card, you give one photo of yourself, pick where you will use the portrait, what you wear, a color and a background, and you may type a short detail. We send the photo, your choices and the detail to OpenAI, which draws the portraits you ask for from them; OpenAI's moderation service checks the detail before anything is drawn. We use the photo only to draw the portraits. We never use it to recognize or identify anyone, and never for anything else. We store the photo and the portraits with our host, Netlify. Every portrait we finish drawing is saved in Your photos at once, even if you leave the page while it is drawn. We delete the photo within a day of starting, or as soon as you press Start again with new choices. The portraits in Your photos stay until you delete them, you delete your account, or the person in a portrait asks us to remove it. If you ask us to email you when your portraits are ready, or when the photo service is working again, we keep that request until the email is sent. OpenAI keeps what it receives for up to 30 days to check for abuse and does not use it to train its models. Before November 23, 2026, a portrait could be made from a photo of someone who agreed to let the maker use it. If you are in a portrait you did not agree to, write to privacy@wiredtype.com and we will remove it, usually within two business days.
Support email
Email sent to any wiredtype.com address is forwarded by ImprovMX to our inbox, which is hosted by Google Gmail. We keep those messages as a record of what was sent. When you delete your account or ask us to erase your data, we move your mail in that inbox to the trash within a day, and Google removes it within 30 days.
Report a problem
When you send a report from the flag in the header, we keep your message and, if you leave the box checked, the page, step and heading you were on, your DISC type and plan, your browser's user-agent string, device, theme, screen size and recent page errors. We keep a screenshot or coach messages only if you add them. We keep a report until you delete your account, and Download my data includes it. Turning off Your history with us does not delete your reports. A report sent while signed out is kept until you ask us to delete it at privacy@wiredtype.com. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland our legal basis is our legitimate interest in fixing what you reported; uncheck the box to send your message alone. Under California law these are identifiers, internet activity and inferences, and we do not sell or share them. When Scout offers to send a problem you mention in the chat and you press Send, we keep your last message, Scout's answer and the page you were on, and nothing else from the conversation.
Invited testers
If WiredType invited you to test the site, a notice on the site asks whether we may record your visits on that device, and we record nothing until you say yes. The recording holds the address of each page you open and of the WiredType page you came from, with any code, sign-in link or email address removed from it; the label of each button you tap (never the answers you choose); how long each step takes; how far you scroll; how far you get in the assessment and in signing up; whether you open your report or download its PDF; your browser and operating system; the size of your browser window; and any errors on the page, including errors in the code of the page that you would never see. It is linked to the invitation link we gave you to start testing. Once you use that link with your WiredType account, it is also linked to your account, and we look at it together with when you took your assessments and what you bought on that account. We use it only to find and fix problems on the site. It never records what you type, your passwords or your IP address. Our database provider, Supabase, stores it, and we delete it within 90 days. Your browser keeps your answer to the notice until you sign out or clear this site's data in your browser. Your answer to that notice alone decides whether recording runs, and your cookie banner settings do not change it. You can stop recording at any time with the "Stop recording my visits" button at the bottom of the screen. When you stop, we keep what was already recorded until we delete it, within 90 days or sooner if you ask. The recording is included in your data export, and we delete it when you delete your account or whenever you ask us at privacy@wiredtype.com. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw with that button. Under California law these are identifiers and internet activity, and we do not sell or share them.
The WiredType Care Team (AI support)
This section was first published on September 23, 2026. It applies from October 22, 2026 to email from any address. From 5 PM US Eastern time on September 25, 2026, the Care Team reads and answers your email at once if you write from an address with no WiredType account. From then until October 1, 2026, if you wrote from an address with a WiredType account, the Care Team first asked whether you wanted its help, and it answered after you replied “yes”. From October 1, 2026, the Care Team also answers email from an address with a WiredType account at once. This includes an email you sent before October 1 that was waiting for your “yes”, unless a person at WiredType already answered it or you replied “person” or “stop”. Until October 22, a person at WiredType answers email to privacy@, security@ and legal@, requests about your data and legal notices. Every Care Team reply ends with a line saying that the Care Team is AI and, unless a person at WiredType already has your case, that you can reply with the word “person” to have a person answer you. You can also reply with the word “stop” to any email from the Care Team, and from then on only people at WiredType read and answer your emails, until you write to us that the Care Team may answer you again. If you replied “person” when the Care Team asked whether you wanted its help, or “stop” to any email from the Care Team, before October 22, we keep that choice after October 22 too, and a person at WiredType answers you until you tell us otherwise.
The WiredType Care Team, our AI support team, reads every email sent to a wiredtype.com address, except email from a person who replied “stop” to the Care Team, or who chose a person before October 22, as the paragraph above says. It answers all of it, including email to privacy@, security@ and legal@ and requests about your data, and it uses the tools on your account page to carry out what you ask. A person at WiredType reviews any privacy request we decline, any appeal, any legal notice, including an arbitration opt-out, and any security report. From October 22, 2026, once a week we also review the past week's Care Team conversations, with names, email addresses and account details removed, to improve its answers and our pages. The review never includes a conversation from before that date or one you asked us to leave out. OpenAI or Anthropic does that review for us under the same terms as the rest of the Care Team's work, the copies made for it are deleted when it ends, and the review never decides anything about you. The Care Team works in two levels. Its first level answers most questions. If your question needs a change to your account or a decision the first level cannot make, the Care Team's senior agent takes it. The senior agent is also an AI, and it can look further into your account and make the changes described below. Every reply tells you it came from the Care Team, our AI support team.
What it reads. The first level reads the subject and text of your email, our help and policy pages, and, if the address you wrote from has a WiredType account, your report level, your plan and your purchases with their refund status. The senior agent also reads the name and pronouns you set, your DISC results, whether you have opened and downloaded your reports, from the records we keep to deliver them, your settings, any discount codes you hold, whether you belong to a team or have a Compare Together connection, the summary of your history with us, and your support conversations from October 22 on, or from the time you replied “yes” when the Care Team asked whether you wanted its help, if that was earlier. It never reads another person's results or account.
Who processes it, and where. The Care Team uses AI models from OpenAI or Anthropic, companies based in the United States. The one we use receives what the Care Team reads and writes the facts of the answer, the reply in your style and in the language you wrote in (using your DISC type and scores and the summary of your history with us), and a check of the finished reply against the facts before it is sent. It may process it in the United States and other countries, as section 10 says. Both state that they do not train their models on API data unless the customer opts in, and we have not opted in. OpenAI keeps what it receives for up to 30 days to watch for abuse, and Anthropic keeps it for the period its API terms set for the same purpose; each then deletes it, unless the law requires it to keep it longer or it needs to keep it to protect its services or other people from harm. No AI provider other than these two receives your email or anything from your support conversation.
Why we may do this. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the Care Team answering your email and making the changes you ask for is part of our service to you, so from October 22, 2026 our legal basis is performance of our contract with you, or the steps you ask us to take before you buy. For a request about your data rights, the basis is our legal duty to answer it. For other email from someone with no account or purchase, and for legal notices, the basis is our legitimate interest in answering email sent to us and in handling legal claims; if you have no account and object to the Care Team reading your email, write to privacy@wiredtype.com and a person at WiredType answers you. For email from an address with a WiredType account, the basis from October 1, 2026 is performance of our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in answering the email you sent us when it is not about our service to you. From September 25 to September 30, 2026, it was your consent, which you gave by replying “yes” when the Care Team asked whether you wanted its help. You can reply with the word “stop” at any time, and a person at WiredType answers you from then on. For email from an address with no account, the basis from September 25, 2026 is the steps you ask us to take before you buy, or our legitimate interest in answering the email you sent us; reply stop to object, and a person at WiredType answers you. Writing replies in your DISC style, using the summary of your history with us, and the weekly review rest on our legitimate interest in answering you well and improving our answers. You can object to the style matching at privacy@wiredtype.com, and from then on the Care Team writes you plain replies. You can also ask us there to leave your conversations out of the weekly review. Security logs protect every account. If you object to them, we consider your objection, and we keep the logs where they are needed to protect your account and other people’s, which is nearly always. What the Care Team did before you withdrew or objected stays as it was.
What it may change, when you ask. Either level can re-send your sign-in or report email to the address on your account, correct the name you go by or your pronouns, stop marketing email, cancel a plan at the end of its paid period, give a refund the refund policy allows exactly as the Request a refund button on your account page would, and give a small discount code. The senior agent can also give a credit, correct your title or suffix, change a setting you ask it to change, open a retake or restore an earlier result, remove a report or result, give you a free upgrade, and give a refund the refund policy allows. Both levels act only on the account that belongs to the address you wrote from. When it cannot confirm that the email came from that address, it first emails a confirmation link to the address on your account and makes the change only after you press Confirm. Before it removes anything, it always emails that link, and nothing is removed until you confirm. If it finds a fault in our site, it files a report so we can fix it. The report carries no name, email address or words from your email.
How it decides. The Care Team answers refund requests by our refund policy, using what you bought and when, how much of the report you opened, and the refunds and credits you have already had. It can give a refund the policy allows, or offer a fix or a credit. It never turns a refund down. A person at WiredType decides any refund the Care Team cannot give, hears your side and replies by email with the answer and the reason. The Care Team answers other requests by our policies and our help pages. It does not use your DISC type, your scores or the summary of your history with us to decide anything. If you are in Australia, a claim under the consumer guarantees is handled as section 13 of the refund policy says. If you disagree with any other answer, reply and ask for a review, and a person at WiredType reviews it, hears your side and can change the answer.
What we keep, and for how long. We keep your email, the reply, the Care Team's notes on your message (its category and why it passed the case on), the text of each AI step, and a record of every change the Care Team made (what changed, when, why, which level made it, and what it was before, so a change can be undone). They are kept in our support inbox and in a private support log on our own server, and the change record also in our database. If you write in another language, the Care Team translates your email and its reply into English, and we keep that English record with the originals so a person at WiredType can read the conversation. We keep all of this for two years after your last message, or until you delete your account or ask us to erase your data. Then, within a day, we erase it from our support log and move the mail in our support inbox to the trash, and Google removes it within 30 days. We keep a short record of a request about your data rights and how we answered it for two years, even after we erase the rest, so we can show we handled it. A refund also stays in Stripe's own payment records under Stripe's privacy policy, as section 7 says. You can ask for a copy of your support conversations and the change record at privacy@wiredtype.com, and we send it within 30 days. Under California law, these records hold identifiers, commercial information (your purchases, refunds and credits) and inferences (the Care Team's notes on your message). We use them to answer you, to keep a record of what we did and, in the weekly review, to improve the Care Team's answers and our pages, and we do not sell or share them.
The short survey. After a conversation ends, we may email you a few optional questions about how it went, each with room for a comment. The survey carries no offers or advertising, and you can reply to say you want no more surveys. Your answers are kept with the conversation and erased with it. If you tell us something went badly, the Care Team may write to you once to put it right; you can say in the survey that you do not want that.
How to reach a person. You can ask for a person at any time. When you do, the Care Team passes your conversation to a person at WiredType, who reads it and replies to you by email. A person at WiredType also reviews any answer you dispute. We do not promise a time for a person’s answer.
Your history with us
This section was added on September 17, 2026 and takes effect on October 22, 2026; nothing is recorded before that date.
We keep a record of the messages between you and WiredType: the emails we send you, what you write to us through the site, our replies, and a one-line note of each purchase and refund. If you are signed in and turn on Remember my coach sessions, the record also holds a short summary of each AI coach session; that setting is off until you turn it on, the conversation itself stays in your browser, only the summary is kept, and each session summary is deleted 12 months after the session. One-off emails sent to an address that has no account (a free result, a checkout link, a reminder) are not kept in this record.
We also keep a short running summary of that record, written with the same AI providers named above, so a reply can continue from your last conversation and you never have to repeat yourself. Who reads it: the person who answers you, the software that drafts our replies to match your type, the WiredType Care Team, our AI support team, when you email us (see The WiredType Care Team), and the AI provider named above when one of them writes a reply. It is never used for analytics or advertising, never sold, never used to train AI models, and never used to decide your price, your access, or anything else about you. The summary is shown with the record; if it gets something wrong, delete it and a fresh one is written from the record, or email privacy@wiredtype.com and we correct it.
You can read the whole record under Your history with us on your account page, download it as part of your data export, delete it, or turn the setting off, which deletes the record on your account and stops new records. Mail you sent to our support inbox is separate from that record: it stays, as section 7 says, for two years after your last message, or until you delete your account or ask us to erase it, so that refund and dispute correspondence is never removed by a toggle. If you write to us without an account, we keep the record under your email address for two years after your last message, because people often write back months later and the reply should follow on from the earlier exchange; you can ask us to erase it sooner from the Data Requests page, and an erasure request removes our inbox copy as well. If you later create an account with that address and confirm it, the record moves to your account.
The conversations in Messages on your account page stay until you delete your account.
Sign-in security
If you add an authenticator app, a security key or a passkey, our sign-in provider, Supabase, stores the name you give it and the key it needs to check your sign-in. Your fingerprint and face never leave your device. We store each recovery code only as a one-way hash, with the dates it was made and used. If you add a recovery email, we store that address and when it was sent a link and confirmed. Devices signed in shows the browser description and times that Supabase keeps for each session; Supabase also records the IP address, which we do not show or copy. We keep a security log of changes and attempts on your account, with the time and the kind of step involved; it never holds your password, codes, IP address or card details. If you are locked out, the account check compares a purchase date and the last four digits of the card you type with your purchase records and Stripe's record of that payment; we store only whether they matched. If someone adds your address as their recovery email, we send you one confirmation email, delete the address within 7 days if you do not confirm it, and remove it at any time if you press Remove my address or write to privacy@wiredtype.com.
3. How we use it
- Deliver the product. Show your DISC results and reports, fit content to your type, and open what you have paid for.
- Process payments. Charge your card, issue receipts, handle refunds, and manage subscriptions through Stripe.
- Send account email. Receipts, password resets, account notices, and, if you have a subscription, renewal reminders and billing notices.
- Answer you. Keep a record of our messages with you and a short summary of it so a reply can continue from your last conversation (Your history with us, section 2).
- Answer your email with AI. The WiredType Care Team, our AI support team, reads and answers the email you send us and makes the account changes you ask for (section 2, The WiredType Care Team).
- Improve our support. From October 22, 2026, once a week, review the Care Team's conversations with names, email addresses and account details removed, to improve its answers and our pages (section 2).
- Improve the product. Look at assessment results in aggregate to improve the questions, the scoring, and the reports.
- Answer legal and privacy requests. Look up your account when you email us a legal or privacy request.
- Protect the service. Our server functions keep a one-way hash of your IP address, made with a secret salt, for 35 days to limit how many requests one connection can make, and Stripe checks payments for fraud.
- Keep your account secure. Check your sign-in steps, email you when a sign-in setting changes, send a yearly check-up you can turn off, and check purchase details before a recovery wait. In the EU and UK our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping accounts secure.
We do not use your assessment answers, reports, or AI conversations to train AI models, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
5. Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Export your data. Download my data on your account page gives you one JSON file with everything your account holds: your account and profile, every assessment result, your purchases and report access, your messages with us and your history, your Compare Together invitations and comparisons, your comparison links from a free result, your card's connection settings, the people you connected with through a card, the details you shared with each of them and the details each of them shared with you, your “how we click” cards and group links, your referral codes, your cookie and consent records, your usage counts if you allowed them, your research participation, your sign-in security records, the devices signed in, and links to your report PDFs and any screenshots you sent us. Your file includes the values each of those people shared with you, such as an email or phone, and names each of them by the first name they used. It never includes a private note another person wrote about you. To ask for anything else we hold about you, write to privacy@wiredtype.com. The links work for 24 hours. The file opens with a plain summary of what each part holds. If you made portraits for your card, the file also links to them, and those links work for 7 days. Your download also lists the apps you connected, including the ones you removed, with the dates.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account. Delete my account on your account page asks you to type DELETE, cancels any active subscription with Stripe first, then deletes the data described under Data retention and emails you a receipt. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Opt out of list email. Receipts and account notices continue for as long as you have an account.
Both buttons are in the Your data section of your account page and work the moment you use them. Retaking the assessment replaces your current result. Turning off research participation on the same page stops new research records. To remove the ones already recorded, choose Delete my research data.
If you took an assessment without an account, the record is stored under a random session ID that lives only in that browser. The Data Requests page shows you that ID and can delete the matching records at once, or you can email the ID to privacy@wiredtype.com. Unclaimed records are kept for no more than 12 months (section 7).
Appeals. If we decline or delay a request, you may appeal by replying to our response. We review the appeal and answer within 45 days with the reasons. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, your state attorney general, in the EU or UK your data protection authority, or in Australia the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. The Data Requests page has the details and how we verify a request.
EU, UK, and EEA users (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR, including the right to object to processing, the right to restrict processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing is (a) performance of a contract when you buy a report or subscription, (b) the steps you ask us to take when you take the assessment and see your result (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR and the UK GDPR), and your consent when you use the AI coach or allow usage counts, (c) our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service, and (d) our legitimate interest in keeping a record of our correspondence with you and a summary of it so we can answer you; turning that setting off is your objection under Article 21, and we honor it at once, (e) for people in a list or a card exchange, our legitimate interest in delivering what the list's owner or the person asked for, with the removal link, or an email to privacy@wiredtype.com, as the way to object, (f) from October 22, 2026, for email you send us, performance of our contract with you (or steps you ask for before a contract) when the WiredType Care Team, our AI support team (section 2), answers you and makes the changes you ask for; our legal duty when you make a request about your data rights; our legitimate interest in answering other email and in handling legal claims; and our legitimate interest in writing the Care Team’s replies in your DISC style and in the weekly review of its work, with the right to object to those two at privacy@wiredtype.com, and (g) before October 22, 2026, for email you send us from an address with a WiredType account, performance of our contract with you from October 1, 2026, or our legitimate interest in answering the email you sent us when it is not about our service to you, and before October 1 your consent, which you gave by replying “yes” when the Care Team asked whether you wanted its help; you can reply with the word “stop” or write to privacy@wiredtype.com at any time, and if you reply “stop”, or replied “person” to that question, a person at WiredType answers you after October 22 as well, until you tell us otherwise; for email from an address with no account, from September 25, 2026, the steps you ask us to take before a contract or our legitimate interest in answering the email you sent us, with a reply of stop as the way to object, (h) for replies to our invitation emails, our legitimate interest in answering a question or stopping when you ask us to; you can object at privacy@wiredtype.com, and a person reads your replies instead, and (i) for a comparison from a free result, performance of our contract with the person who makes the link; for the first name and relationship kind they give us about the person they name, our legitimate interest in delivering the link they asked for, with privacy@wiredtype.com as the way to object; and for connecting the two results, the consent of the person who opens the comparison, which they can withdraw by removing it; for a “how we click” card, the consent of both people, which either can withdraw by taking the card down; for links printed in a paid report, performance of our contract with the person who bought the report; for the first name and result of a person who asks for a comparison from a printed link, that person's consent, which they can withdraw by removing the request; and for opening that comparison, the consent of both people, given by the request and by the report owner's yes. For connecting a card owner with a person who takes the test from the card: the owner's consent, given by turning on "Add people who take the test from my card to my people" or by adding that person, which the owner can withdraw by turning the setting off or removing the person; and the other person's consent, given on the consent panel, which they can withdraw by removing the connection. The Care Team’s answers to refund requests, and the Request a refund button, are decisions made by software alone, under our refund policy, to carry out our contract with you. You have the right to have a person at WiredType review any of them, to give your side and to contest the answer: reply to the answer and ask for a review. The coach session summary rests on your consent: it is off until you turn it on.
California residents (CCPA and CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete that information, the right to correct inaccuracies, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA. If you allow Analytics, we also collect internet or other electronic network activity information (the pages and steps you reach on this site). We do not sell or share it.
Export and deletion on the account page cover the rights to know, access, portability and deletion. Our legal contact for privacy matters is privacy@wiredtype.com.
People in Washington state
Our consumer health data privacy policy under Washington's My Health My Data Act is on the page Your health data. It explains how the Act applies to coach session summaries, to photos of your face and to what you write to Scout, our AI coach, and to the Care Team, and how to use your rights under the Act.
People in Australia
If you are in Australia, you can see and download the personal information we hold about you from the Your data section of your account page, correct your name and profile details in Settings, or ask for any of these at privacy@wiredtype.com. We answer within 30 days and charge nothing. To complain about how we handled your information, email the same address; we reply within 30 days. Your information is held mainly in the United States by the providers in section 4, and section 10 says where. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Nothing in this policy limits a right you have under the Privacy Act 1988.
6. Cookies and browser storage
When you arrive through a partner link, WiredType sets two cookies of its own: wt_p, which records which partner's link you used, and wt_pv, a random visitor ID. Both last 60 days and tell us which partner to credit if you create an account or buy. Nobody else reads them and they are not used for advertising. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they are set only if you allow the Marketing category in the cookie banner or in Cookie settings. The site also uses your browser's local storage for: your sign-in session, your assessment answers and DISC type, your theme and reading progress, your choice about sharing your style with new connections, a random device ID used to match an assessment to your account, and your answer to the cookie banner. The site does not work without these.
When you open Compare Together, make an invitation, start a test from someone's card or import Google contacts, WiredType sets one cookie, __Host-wt_ct, for 30 days. It keeps those steps connected and protects them from forged requests.
When you arrive through a creator's link, an address that begins wiredtype.com/in/, WiredType sets one cookie of its own, wt_cl, for 30 days. It holds only the link's code, so checkout applies the creator's offer and a purchase made through the link is credited to that creator. It holds nothing about you and is not used for advertising. In the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom it is set only if you allow the Marketing category with the Cookie settings link in the footer. If you leave Marketing off, you can type the creator's code at checkout to get the same offer.
When you open the partner program's overview, terms or join page with Marketing allowed in the cookie banner or in Cookie settings, WiredType sets the wt_partner_view cookie for 365 days to remember when you first opened the program with consent so earnings can count from that day if you join, unless your browser sends Global Privacy Control or a Do Not Track header.
An unsent message to Scout is kept in this browser tab until you send it or close the tab.
Two outside services can place or read data in your browser. When you open checkout, Stripe's payment form sets its own cookies to help prevent fraud. Public pages serve their fonts from our own site, so Google Fonts receives nothing from you; only two admin-only pages load fonts from Google.
We run no advertising pixels or third-party affiliate tracking. Two optional categories are in use. Analytics is our own usage counts, described in section 2: if you allow it, the site keeps a random visit ID in your browser for 30 days so a visit is counted once and so we remember where you first came from; if you refuse it or turn it off later, nothing more is recorded, the visit ID is erased, the rows of that visit are deleted, and rows tied to your account are deleted. Saving with Analytics off also stops the anonymous step totals described in section 2. Marketing covers the partner-credit and creator-link cookies described above; for visitors in the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom they are set only with the Marketing category allowed. The Preferences category is not in use today. From October 9, 2026, for connections our host locates in the United States, and from October 20, 2026 for connections it locates in the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, we leave these choices in Cookie settings without opening a banner, to keep prompts out of your way. In the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom the site then stores only what it needs to work, and Analytics and Marketing stay off until you turn them on in Cookie settings, so no partner link, creator link or friend's shared link is remembered until then. In the United Kingdom the anonymous step totals in section 2 still run, as they do in the United States, until you save with Analytics off. Elsewhere, or when the location is unknown, we show the banner. Closing or not seeing a banner does not allow Analytics. If we add an optional tool later, it will load only for people who allowed its category, and we will update this page first. Recording for invited testers has its own notice, described in section 2, and the cookie banner does not turn that recording on or off. You can change your answer at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.
When you open a friend's shared link, your browser keeps the referral code from that link for 60 days, so your friend gets credit if you create an account. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it is kept only if you allow the Marketing category. When you finish the free test, the site also makes a referral code of your own, so the links you share can credit you. That code does not hold your email address. When you share, it also holds the first name you typed and a link to your free result, as "Share links and cards" in section 2 explains. We delete that name after 12 months, or sooner when you delete your free result. A code that no account holds and nobody used is deleted 12 months after it is made.
We keep a record of each banner choice. It holds your choices, a random ID, a region guess from your browser's language and time zone, your browser's user-agent string, the country our host detects from your connection, and the time. It does not hold your IP address or your email address.
Global Privacy Control. Because we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, browser signals such as Global Privacy Control have nothing to opt out of here. We honor them anyway: if your browser sends the signal, the site treats you as having chosen Essential only, records that choice with the source "gpc", and does not show the cookie banner. You can still open Cookie settings from the footer. Our declaration is published at /.well-known/gpc.json.
7. Data retention
- Assessments attached to an account stay until the account is deleted. Deleting your account also deletes results you took while signed out in a browser that later saved a result to the account.
- Assessments taken without an account (no name or email on the record) are kept for no more than 12 months. A nightly job that deletes records older than that is in place and is being switched from its count-only check to deletion; until it is switched on, you can delete your record at any time from the Data Requests page, and we update this line when the job is live.
- Account data stays for as long as you have an account.
- Anonymous step totals: we delete totals older than 14 days in our hourly cleanup.
- Usage counts (Analytics, only if allowed): raw rows for 400 days, then hourly totals only, which hold no visit or account IDs.
- Shared-link totals (from October 22, 2026): hourly totals per kind of link, which hold nothing about any person.
- Comparison links from a free result: a one-person link nobody used, deleted 30 days after it stops working; a removed comparison, deleted right away; otherwise kept as long as both results are. Counts of steps in that flow hold no link, name or account and are kept 400 days. A comparison made through your card's standing link does not end after 30 days. It lasts until either of you removes it or the result it depends on is deleted. Pausing or replacing the link, or changing your card code, stops new people from using it and leaves comparisons already made in place. When a result without an account is deleted, its comparisons, its place in your list and any details shared with it are deleted too.
- Links printed in a paid report: a link you turned off, deleted 30 days later; a request from a printed link that you have not answered, deleted 30 days after it was made; a request you decline, deleted right away; otherwise kept as long as the result they belong to. Deleting the result or your account deletes them at once.
- Counts of Scout's offers to send a problem: a number for each minute, with no words and nothing that names you, kept 14 days.
- Apps you connected: while the connection lasts; the record of a removed connection for two years after you remove it; everything at once when you delete your account.
- Portraits for your card: the photo you give, until a day after you start, or until you press Start again with new choices; every finished portrait, in Your photos until you delete it, you delete your account, or the person in a portrait asks us to remove it; a request to be emailed about your portraits or the photo service, until the email is sent.
- Recordings of invited testers (only if you said yes on the tester notice): deleted within 90 days, or sooner when you delete your account or ask us.
- When you delete your account, these are deleted together, right away: your sign-in and profile, every assessment result, your purchase records and report access in our database, AI credit records, your history with us, the Care Team's log of your conversations and its record of changes, your sign-in security records, your Compare Together invitations and comparisons (the people you compared with can no longer open them), your comparison links from a free result, your “how we click” cards and group links, your card and its portraits, team memberships, a team you manage alone, referral codes, usage count rows tied to your account, the recording of your visits as an invited tester, cookie banner records tied to your assessments or email, your email list entry, and the link between your account and any research data (research events that remain can no longer be tied to you). Any active subscription is canceled with Stripe before anything is deleted. We keep no copy of your purchase records. Stripe keeps its own record of each payment under its privacy policy. Our database provider keeps daily backups for 7 days, so a copy can remain in a backup for up to 7 days. If you unsubscribed from our emails, your address stays on the do-not-email list. If you manage a team that still has other people on it, the account page asks you to remove them first, because deleting the team would remove their reports. If you were a partner, your partner records stay for six years under an anonymous id, as section 7 explains, and a customer you introduced stays credited to that anonymous id.
- Gifts. If we offered you a gift, then after you delete your account we keep only a coded form of your email address, which gift offer it was, and its dates (when we offered it, when it ends and when it was opened), so that each person gets each gift once. Anyone who already knows your address could match it to this code. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland our legal basis is our legitimate interest in giving each gift once.
- Plan renewal agreements. When you buy Plus or Pro, we keep a record of your agreement to its automatic renewal: the words you agreed to, the price, the date and your account ID. We keep it for three years, or one year after the plan ends if that is later, even if you delete your account, because California law requires it. Then we delete it.
- Email list entries stay until you delete your account or unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we do not email you again.
- Cookie banner records are kept for three years after the choice and then deleted. A record made on a browser where you later saved a result to your account is included in your data download and deleted with your account.
- Sign-in security. Recovery codes, your recovery email and your check-up date stay until you remove them or delete your account. An unconfirmed recovery email is deleted after 7 days, one-time security links 30 days after use or expiry, recovery requests 90 days after they close, the security log after 400 days, the record of security changes we group into one email 31 days after that email is sent, and the record of sign-in changes made during the first rollout days after 90 days.
- AI chat messages and writing samples are not saved on our servers. A short coach session summary is kept in your history while Remember my coach sessions is on.
- Your history with us (messages, copies of the emails we send you, purchase notes, coach session summaries, and the running summary of the record) stays while you have an account and the setting is on. Deleting your history, turning the setting off, or deleting your account deletes it right away. Without an account, it is kept for two years after your last message and then removed by a nightly job. After any deletion a copy can remain in our database provider's backups for up to 7 days.
Retention at a glance
- Assessment with an account: until you delete the account.
- Assessment without an account: no more than 12 months (deletion job being switched on); earlier on request from the Data Requests page.
- Account, purchases, report access, AI credits, team membership: until you delete the account (Stripe keeps its own payment record).
- Plan renewal agreement: three years, or one year after the plan ends if that is later, even after you delete your account.
- AI chat messages and writing samples: not stored. A short coach session summary is kept in your history while the setting is on.
- Your history with us: until you delete it, turn it off, or delete the account; without an account, two years after your last message.
- Team pair reports: until the team or the account is deleted.
- Team PDF exports: an admin can download an export for 24 hours after it is made, and we delete the stored exports when a member stops sharing, leaves or is removed.
- A person in someone's list (Together, or a card exchange): until the list's owner removes them, they remove themselves, or the owner deletes their account.
- A card exchange record: the address and the name are cleared after 90 days, or after 4 days when the person only asked for the card.
- Apps you connected: while the connection lasts; the record of a removed connection for two years after you remove it; everything at once when you delete your account.
- A comparison or a connection: when either person removes it, the comparison, the list entries that came with it and the details shared between the two people are deleted for both right away. Database backups hold a copy for 7 days, as this section says. A contact saved before the card, a contact saved on a phone and an email already delivered stay where they are.
- Links printed in a paid report: a turned-off link or an unanswered request, 30 days; otherwise as long as the result.
- Email list entry: until you unsubscribe or delete the account; the address then stays on the do-not-email list.
- Cookie banner and consent records: three years, or until you delete your account if the record came from a browser you used with it.
- Support email: kept two years after your last message, as The WiredType Care Team section says. When you delete your account or ask us to erase your data, we move your mail in our support inbox to the trash within a day, and Google removes it within 30 days.
- WiredType Care Team records (your email, the replies, the Care Team's notes, the text of each AI step, English translations, your survey answers and the change record): two years after your last message, or until you delete your account or ask us to erase them; then erased from our support log within a day, with the inbox copy moved to the trash within a day and removed by Google within 30 days.
- Delivery logs: our email and hosting providers keep their own delivery logs under their own policies.
- Database backups: 7 days.
If you are a partner: your partner agreement record (the version you accepted, its content hash, the time, your IP address and browser), your commission ledger, your payouts and any notices are kept for six years after you leave the program, because tax rules and New Jersey's six-year period for contract claims require it. When you delete your account, your name, handle and contact details are removed from those records and the records stay only under an anonymous partner id.
8. Security
Traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Supabase encrypts the database at rest and stores passwords only in hashed form. Every table in our database has row-level security switched on, so a signed-in person can reach only the rows the access rules allow. Only our server functions hold the key that bypasses those rules. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We will notify you promptly if we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data.
9. Children's privacy
WiredType accounts, paid reports, subscriptions, team seats, and the AI coach are for people 18 years of age or older. The free five-question screener is open to everyone and creates no account. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account and before your first message to the AI coach, and we use it only to apply this rule. If the date shows you are 18 or older, we do not keep the date; we keep a record that you passed (the time, the method, a hashed form of your connection address, the version of these terms, and, for a visitor without an account, the browser session ID). If the date shows you are under 18, we refuse and keep nothing except a count of refusals. Before a comparison opens, whether from a card, a shared result or any comparison link, you confirm you are 16 or older. We keep your confirmation and its time, and never a birth date for this step. Before you share contact details, you must pass the separate 18-or-older age check, and we keep only that you passed and when. We keep that for as long as we keep the share or connection, and we delete it with them. We keep these records to show that people met the age minimum for the action they chose. If we learn that an account belongs to a person under 18, we close it, stop the AI coach on it, and delete its data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Only a parent or guardian may add a person under 18 to Together, the page on WiredType that lists the people you compare with, as section 7 of our Terms of Service explains. If you believe we hold data about a child, email privacy@wiredtype.com and we will delete it.
10. International users
We are based in the United States. Our database (Supabase) is hosted in the United States, in Virginia, and our server functions (Netlify) run in the United States, in Ohio. Stripe, Resend, OpenAI, Anthropic, ImprovMX and Google, listed in section 4, process data in the United States and may also process it in other countries where they or their own providers operate; email privacy@wiredtype.com and we will tell you what we know about a given provider's countries. If you use the service from outside the U.S., including from Australia, your data is transferred to the U.S., which may have different privacy laws than your country of residence.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time, and we change the date shown at the top of this page when we do. If a change uses the data we already hold in a new way or shares it with a new kind of company, we email account holders at the address on the account at least 14 days before it applies, and the email says what changed and the date. If a change would use the data we already hold in a materially different way, we also ask for your yes, and we do not use your existing data the new way unless you agree. If you have no account and we hold your email address, we tell you in the next email we send you, and the change does not apply to your data before that. For other significant changes we show a notice on your account page when you next sign in and post it on the policy history page, at least 14 days before the change applies, and we group these into at most one notice a quarter unless the law or the security of your account needs one sooner. Corrections and changes that only add to your rights apply when posted. Changes to prices, refunds and the dispute terms follow section 14 of our Terms of Service. This way of giving notice applies to changes we announce after October 22, 2026. Every previous version is published, exactly as it read, on the policy history page.
12. Contact
