How this type works with each style

Written to you as the Di. If you are the other person in the pair, read your own style's section for what this type needs from you.

DDi and D (Dominance)

Two D-types in a room can clash fast over who decides. Your warmth can calm the exchange, and it works best once you have agreed who owns the call. The pure D-type respects your directness. Your warmth confuses them slightly, because they are not used to someone who is both competitive and likable.

What this type can say: “I respect your directness, so here is mine: I think we should go with Option A. Here is why. If you see a flaw, tell me straight.”

IDi and I (Influence)

You and the I-type share the social stage, but you bring something they often lack: a destination. They love the brainstorm and the back-and-forth of working it out together. You love all that too, but you are always steering toward a decision. This makes you a natural partner: they generate excitement, you direct it into outcomes.

What this type can say: “I love where this is going. Let's capture the top three ideas and pick one to run with by Thursday. Which one excites you most?”

SDi and S (Steadiness)

This is the pairing that tests your patience and rewards your growth. The S-type is your operational foundation: steady, reliable, and deeply loyal once they trust you. But they process change slowly, and your combined speed and enthusiasm can overwhelm them. You are a wave crashing on a seawall. The wall does not move. If you learn to work with the wall, it protects everything behind it.

What this type can say: “I know I come on strong. What concerns should we sort out before we move forward? Tell me by Thursday, or sooner if you are ready.”

CDi and C (Conscientiousness)

Your vision and their rigor pull against each other, and that tension can be productive. You want to sell it; they want to prove it. You are five slides into the pitch deck while they are still on the data validation for slide one. When you agree up front which questions must be answered before you pitch, the friction produces better work. Unmanaged, it produces mutual contempt.

What this type can say: “I trust your analysis. Here is what I need: your top recommendation with the key risks, by Thursday. I will handle the positioning and the politics.”
