Responsible Use
Last updated: September 23, 2026
The short version. Use WiredType to understand yourself and to communicate better with other people. Do not use it to decide whether to hire, promote, pay, discipline, house, insure, lend to, or treat anyone. That rule binds every account, including team admins.
1. What DISC is for
DISC describes behavioral tendencies: how a person tends to communicate, decide, and respond to pressure. It is a lens for self-reflection and for adapting how you talk with someone. WiredType has not published reliability or validity figures for its own assessment, and a DISC type is not a measure of ability, intelligence, honesty, or job performance. The Science page says what the assessment can and cannot support.
2. What it must not be used for
Do not use a WiredType result, report, or AI conversation, yours or anyone else's, to make or support:
- Hiring, screening, interviewing, promotion, demotion, pay, scheduling, discipline, or firing decisions.
- Tenant screening, credit, lending, or insurance decisions.
- Medical, psychological, or psychiatric diagnosis or treatment, or any decision about a person's mental health.
- Any decision that the law regulates or that has a legal or similarly significant effect on a person.
These uses are prohibited by our Terms of Service (sections 8 and 9). They are also the uses that employment, housing, and consumer laws scrutinize, and a DISC result is not a validated basis for any of them.
3. For team admins and managers
When you run a team on WiredType you can see each member's name, email, DISC type, and four scores, plus the team views built from them. That visibility exists so people can work together better, and it comes with duties:
- Use profiles to adapt how you communicate, run meetings, give feedback, and pair people on work. That is the whole purpose.
- Never use a profile to rank, rate, select, pay, discipline, or let go of a person. A DISC type is not a performance measure and must not appear in a performance file as one.
- Do not require anyone to share a result as a condition of employment or advancement. Joining a team is the member's choice; the invite says what you will see before they accept.
- Treat a member's profile as personal data. Do not repost it, forward it, or discuss it with people outside the team without the member's agreement.
- The Manager's Guide and team pages carry a reminder line for this reason: communication and self-understanding only.
4. For coaches, consultants, and partners
If you use WiredType with clients, the same rules apply to you and to them. Present DISC as a communication and self-awareness tool, not as a selection or clinical instrument. Do not describe the assessment as validated, certified, or clinically tested, because WiredType has not published such studies. Never style the product "DiSC" with a lowercase i; that is another company's mark (see Trademarks).
5. For yourself
Your report is a description of tendencies, written to be useful. Read it as a starting point: keep what fits, question what does not, and retake the assessment if your first pass felt rushed. Your type does not limit what you can learn or do.
6. Reporting misuse
If you believe a WiredType result is being used to make a decision about you that this page prohibits, email hello@wiredtype.com. The WiredType Care Team, our AI support team, answers within 24 hours. Before October 22, 2026, a person at WiredType answers your email, unless the Care Team asked you first and you replied yes. You can ask for a person at any time, and a person at WiredType replies to you by email. We can confirm what the product is and is not designed to do, remove you from a team at your request, and, where the Terms have been broken, suspend the account that broke them.
